Materials: Vintage machine-pieced Jacob’s Ladder quilt top consisting of commercial cottons, cyanotype chemicals overall, cotton back, cotton embroidery thread, bamboo and cotton batting

Techniques: Sun-printed cyanotype photograms of a wooden ladder and rope, hand stitching

Statement: Barbed “wire” stitched across the surface references the many border crossings around the world where desperate people are forced to wait behind a gate or wall after fleeing violent, oppressive situations. Tanya Aguiñiga’s ongoing project AMBOS (Art Made Between Opposite Sides) and its imagery of border crossings influenced this piece. My Past Present series incorporates traditional vintage quilt blocks and tops, creating contemporary statements.
